Seatronics, an Acteon company, global providers in the rental and sale of marine electronic equipmenthas doubled its stock of Sonic 2024 Multibeam Echosounders with the acquisition of eleven new systems from long-term supplier R2Sonic.
Over the last 18 months, the increased projects within the oil and gas industry and the booming activity in the offshore windfarm sector have seen a rise in hydrographic surveys all around the world. Responding to this increased need and to serve their customers with innovative solutions, Seatronics have more than doubled their stockholding of Sonic 2024 systems with an investment exceeding USD 2 million.
The Sonic 2024 is a broadband – wideband high-resolution shallow water multibeam echosounder. With proven results and unmatched performance, the Sonic 2024 has become an industry standard, setting the bar in innovation and compelling customer value. It provides user selectable operating frequencies between 170 kHz and 450 kHz with 1-Hz increments, and optional 700 kHz. It guarantees the smallest beamwidth of 0.3° x 0.6° at 700 kHz, resulting in incomparable bottom detect resolution. In addition, like all R2Sonic MBES, the Sonic 2024 is equipped with the Ultra High Density (UHD) feature which increases the number of soundings per ping by 400% to 1024. Also, the Sonic 2024 provides variable swath coverage selections from 10° to 160°, the ability to rotate the swath sector, as well as roll stabilisation. Both the frequency and swath coverage may be selected “on-the-fly”, in real-time during survey operations. The compact size, low weight, low power consumption of 50 W and the elimination of separate topside processors make the Sonic 2024 very well suited for small survey vessel, ROV or AUV operations.
Phil Middleton, Group Managing Director, Seatronics, says, “Our customers demand high performance yet reliable and cost-effective technology, the R2Sonic 2024 MBES system ticks all these boxes, hence our confidence to invest significantly in the product range. Our continually expanding fleet of subsea visualisation and mapping technologies is unrivalled within our industry. I’d like to thank Andy Williamson of Underseasense, the official distributor of R2Sonic in Scotland, for the local service and support received in our UK headquarters.”
Jens Steenstrup, President of R2Sonic, reiterates his company’s commitment to focusing on delivering the best solution and experience to customers: “We are thrilled to have supported Seatronics significant investment in new Sonic 2024 systems. These systems include the Ultra High Resolution (UHR) option making them state-of-the-art Multibeam Echosounders (MBES) for offshore applications.
