The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has issued a drilling permit to Lundin Energy Norway AS for well 16/1-34 A, in accordance with Section 13 of the Resource Management Regulations.

Well 16/1-34 A – an appraisal well in production licence 167 – will be drilled from the Deepsea Stavanger drilling rig. Equinor Energy AS is the operator with an ownership interest of 40%.

The other licensees are Equinor Energy AS (30%), Spirit Energy Norway AS (20%) and Aker BP ASA (10%).

The area in this licence consists of part of block 16/1. The well will be drilled about 6 kilometres northeast of the Ivar Aasen field.

Production licence 167 was awarded on 1 March 1991 (the 13th licensing round). This is the 10th exploration well to be drilled in this licence.

The permit is contingent on the operator securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities before drilling activity starts.
