Vestas has received a 39 MW order from Utilitas, for the Saarde wind project in Estonia.

The order includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of nine units of V150-4.2 MW turbines in 4.3 MW operating mode and Vestas will also service the turbines under a 30-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement.

“We are delighted to have been selected to supply our V150 turbines for the Saarde project in Estonia, continue the partnership with Utilitas, and to help the country accelerate its energy transition,” says Juan Furones, Vice President for Vestas Sales North & West. “Our nine turbines will be the most modern and effective turbines in Estonia to date. In addition, Utilitas has entrusted us with a 30-year full-scope service agreement that will continue to expand our service footprint in the region for the long-term.”

“No new wind turbines have been installed in Estonia for 8 years now. The technology of wind turbines has developed rapidly during this time and the Vestas wind turbines we acquire are the most modern and efficient. Compared to 10 years ago, fewer wind turbines can now produce substantially more energy,” affirms Priit Koit, Utilitas Group CEO. “Utilitas is aiming to reduce the use of imported natural gas and to achieve carbon neutrality in the next 5 years and wind parks play an important role in this process.”

Deliveries and installation at the Saarde wind project are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2023, while commissioning is planned for the second half of 2023.

The project is located in Saarde, a municipality in Pärnu County, South-West Estonia.

In Finland, Vestas has received a new 135 MW order from Ilmatar Energy Oy for four projects. This order marks the next cooperation with Ilmatar Energy, a long-term client, after a 221 MW order in June last year for another Finnish wind farm.

The order includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of V162-6.2 MW and V150-4.2 MW wind turbines, delivered in various operating modes, for the four projects. It also features a 35-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement for the three EnVentus projects, as well as one 30-year AOM 5000 for the fourth project site.

“We are delighted to build on our partnership with Ilmatar Energy, underlying the shared vision for a sustainable future,” says Juan Furones, Vice President for Vestas Sales North & West. “After having delivered several successful projects to Ilmatar Energy, they entrust us once again with a major order, including long-term service agreements, designed to ensure optimised performance of the assets. The four projects together will add another 135 MW of clean energy to the Finnish energy mix, supporting the country’s ambition towards a greener future.”

“We are happy to continue our collaboration with Vestas with this 135 MW project portfolio. The order plays a significant role in our strategy to become one of the leading Independent Power Producers in the Nordics” says Juha Sarsama, CEO of Ilmatar Energy Oy. “Vestas has once again shown their excellent commitment and professionalism, which is extremely important in this kind of complex portfolio structure,” says Antti Lehtinen, Head of Turbine Technology at Ilmatar Energy Oy.

Deliveries and installation at the four sites are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2023, while commissioning is planned for the third quarter of 2023.
