The partners in Solsort Unit (INEOS, Danoil and Nordsøfonden) have made a final decision on the development of the Solsort field. Start of production is expected in Q4 2023.

Thursday 22 September 2022, the partners in Solsort Unit have decided to develop the western part of the Solsort discovery, which is located in the northern part of the Danish North Sea. The Solsort discovery consists primarily of oil, but gas will also be produced from the field.

The development of Solsort consists of two wells drilled from the nearby South Arne platform. Production from Solsort will be processed at the South Arne field installation and will involve only minor modifications to the facilities. By drilling the Solsort wells from the South Arne platform, the development work will be far less extensive than if the Solsort field had its own facilities. Therefore, Solsort is expected to be able to go into production in just over a year, in Q4 2023.

“I am very pleased that the investment decision has now been made to develop Solsort. With this type of development and an agreement to tie-back to South Arne, we expect to go into production before the end of 2023, which means that we can increase Denmark’s production of oil and gas at a time when Europe’s security of supply is challenged,” says Birgitta Jacobsen, CEO of Nordsøfonden.

INEOS is the operator of both the South Arne field and Solsort, and an agreement on the terms and conditions for the tie-in to the installations in the South Arne field was reached at the end of 2021.
